It is world renowned after being featured in a painting made by Charles Maire for the most popular Absinthe of the 19th century, Pernod Fils. You can see the original painting in our photo gallery. The Pontarlier glass is mouthblown and has a reservoir in the stem to measure the correct amount of Absinthe. Like former originals it is nicely cut, to give it a premium and nostalgic look. If you are looking for an original Absinthe glass, that makes no compromises in terms of quality, the Pontarlier glass is the definite winner.

Variations of the Pontarlier Absinthe glass

We also offer a second, similar Pontarlier glass for sale in our store: The regular Pontarlier Glass is not handmade, it is made of pressed glass. Pontarlier was the Absinthe hub in the 19th century, many distilleries were located in this small town close to the Swiss border. The biggest player, Pernod Absinthe, had, as well, a large factory in Pontarlier. For advertisement purposes, Charles Maire from Pontarlier (1845-1919) painted a still life showing a bottle of Pernod, two Absinthe glasses, a water carafe, and a newspaper from Pontarlier. This is how the glasses got their name. Pernod mass-produced this artwork, and soon the paintings decorated almost every French bistro. If you are lucky, you can still find a copy of Charles Maire's famous still life at a flea market in France.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1010/9920/9043/files/absinth-glas-pontarlier-reservoir-handmade.jpg?v=1768480162
