An Absinthe grille is a nice alternative to an Absinthe spoon. Like a spoon, you place it on the glass and put a sugar cube on top. Through the holes, the sugar and water drips into your glass of Absinthe. The Gothic grille made by ALANDIA Barware has an outstanding trinity design which gives perfect stability when placed on the Absinthe glass. It is made of high quality stainless steel and the finishing polish gives the Gothic grille a brilliant shine. Overall, we can highly recommend this accessory as it adds some variety to the Absinthe ritual. The grille fits perfectly to our Skull Absinthe glasses.

How to serve Absinthe with an Absinthe Grille

In the following video, you can see how you prepare Absinthe the traditional French way. You need an Absinthe glass, an Absinthe grille (or spoon), sugar cubes and ice-cold water for this ritual. This is how it works: You place the Absinthe grille (or spoon) on the rim of the glass, put a sugar cube on top and slowly add water. The Absinthe in the glass blends with water and magically louches from green to an opalescent white color. Santé, your sugared Absinthe is prepared!

Frequently Asked Questions about the
Product

The Grille Gothic absinthe spoon stands out due to its striking design, which is based on Gothic forms and ornaments. It is deliberately expressive in its design and not a restrained, standard accessory.

The crinkle pattern creates an open, permeable structure, allowing water to flow evenly over the sugar cube. At the same time, it enhances the spoon's ornamental, slightly somber character. This design, by the way, already existed in the 19th century. The spoon is also an authentic reproduction of the original.

The Grille Gothic spoon is traditionally placed across the glass and serves as a holder for the sugar cube. Functionally, it fulfills the same purpose as other absinthe spoons, but adds a striking visual accent.

This spoon is particularly effective with dark, characterful absinthes (e.g., Hamlet or Mansinthe), in Gothic, vintage, or alternative settings, and anywhere absinthe is intentionally presented. It also fits perfectly on our skull glass.

The Grille Gothic spoon is aimed at absinthe lovers with a sense of individuality who consciously want to stand out from classic or simple accessories and value atmosphere and expression.

Frequently Asked Questions
general

For the traditional ritual, three basics are usually sufficient: an Absinthe glass, an Absinthe spoon, and ice-cold water (e.g., from a carafe). Sugar cubes are optional. Those who prepare Absinthe more frequently or serve multiple people often use a fountain or a brouilleur for particularly even dripping.

An Absinthe glass is shaped to better highlight the aroma and mixing ratio. Many classic models (e.g., Pontarlier glasses) support the typical dilution with water and ensure that the louche effect develops beautifully and controllably – something that often appears less "harmonious" in a simple tumbler.

The Absinthe spoon is placed over the glass to hold a sugar cube while water slowly drips over it. "The right one" primarily depends on the glass size and style: It is important that it rests steadily and offers enough surface area for the water to flow through evenly.

Carafe: simple, flexible, ideal for beginners Brouilleur: controlled drip directly onto the glass, very classic Fountain: perfect for quiet, even dripping and when several glasses are to be prepared one after another (or simultaneously) – often the "ritual upgrade."

For glasses: clean gently, especially with delicate shapes or decorations – ideally with mild dish soap and a soft cloth. Spoons (depending on material/finish) should be stored dry to maintain their surface and shine. For delicate or coated items, hand washing is usually the safest option.
