These Absinthes are included in the set
The Deluxe Edition Absinthe Starter Set contains a total of five different absinthes, each with its own unique tasting profile. This allows you to thoroughly explore the diverse world of absinthe. Tasting notes for each absinthe are printed on the back of the box, guiding you as you discover its flavors.
1. Absinthe Heritage Verte is a robust French absinthe. It's the most classic absinthe in the set, so we recommend starting with this one. It sets the standard for the other varieties. The recipe is based on anise, fennel, and wormwood. A few other herbs and spices are also included, but the aforementioned ingredients are the dominant flavor. The freshness of these herbs is immediately apparent upon opening the bottle. In a glass, diluted with water, the first thing you notice is its dense cloudiness. This is due to the high concentration of essential oils in the absinthe. On the palate, you'll taste the slightly bitter notes of the wormwood. They harmonize beautifully with the natural sweetness of the anise and fennel. The finish reveals a subtle cognac note, which is a result of the absinthe's wine alcohol base.
2. Moulin Vert is also a classic absinthe. However, unlike Heritage Verte, it has a more complex recipe. You can taste notes of dark chocolate and cognac. This is because high-quality wine alcohol is also used for distillation in Moulin Vert.
3. Absinthe République Vintage is distilled with coriander seeds in addition to the classic herbs anise, fennel, and wormwood. This gives it a pleasantly spicy note. The overall recipe of the absinthe was chosen so that its taste is similar to that of a mature vintage absinthe. That is, it is less crisp and fresh, but rather more imposing and majestic in flavor.
4. Strong68 is particularly suitable for absinthe enthusiasts who are looking for a genuine absinthe with a higher wormwood content. The extra portion of wormwood gives the drink a slightly bitter taste. It is less complex, but has been our absolute bestseller for years.
5. Gold68 is the most modern absinthe in the set, as it contains no anise. Instead, it is made with lemon and orange peel to give it body and character even without anise. But overall, the wormwood is the dominant flavor. Its slightly bitter taste is noticeable without the otherwise dominant anise.
This is how Absinthe is traditionally drunk
In 19th-century France, people would gather after work for the "Green Hour," or "Heure Verte." They would drink a glass of absinthe, with its characteristic green color. However, absinthe isn't drunk neat, but mixed with water. Then, as if by magic, it turns a thick white. In our video, you'll see how the classic French absinthe ritual works. You'll need an absinthe glass, an absinthe spoon, sugar cubes, and ice-cold water. Contrary to popular belief, Absinthe not lit. The original 19th-century absinthe preparation uses only sugar and water.
