ALANDIA Verte Édition Barrique is a barrel-aged Absinthe, made after the original ALANDIA Verte recipe but further aged in French oak white wine barrels from the Loire region. This gives this Absinthe a very smooth and creamy taste, with further notes of vanilla and toffee. The herbal composition of the base recipe is primarily focused on Absinthes iconic ingredient: Wormwood, also known as “La Grande Absinthe”. The plants are cultivated on the fertile fields of the distillery, which guarantees superior quality. Overall, this Absinthe is a sensory experience.

Absinthe ALANDIA Verte: Barrel Aged

All process for the production of ALANDIA Verte Edition Barrique orient at 19th century traditions. Like in the old days, the wormwood harvest is done by hand and the sprigs dry for several months in a wooden hut, the so called the “séchoir”. True to the original is as well the recipe. It consists of a decent portion of wormwood (artemisia absinthium), which is carefully blended with several other traditional herbs, including green anise and fennel plus the artemisia species genepi. For the making of the final spirit, copper stills are used for distillation. After distillation, the spirit aged for 15 months in French oak white wine barrels from the Loire region in the cellar of the distillery.

"Barrique" means that this absinthe has been aged in wooden barrels after distillation. Barrel aging shapes its character, structure, and color, making Verte Barrique a mature Verte absinthe.

Compared to non-barrel-aged Verte absinthes, Verte Barrique is rounder, warmer, and more structured. The fresh herbal notes recede somewhat in favor of wood, mature, and deeper notes.

Aging in wooden barrels results in a softer bitterness, more body, and a more harmonious alcohol structure. Subtle wood notes complement the herbs without overpowering them.

The color change occurs through maturation in the wooden barrel, not through additional dyeing. Wood and time naturally influence the hue.

Verte Barrique is particularly suitable for connoisseurs who like classic absinthe but are looking for a more mature, less fresh and therefore deeper interpretation – often also interesting for lovers of barrel-aged spirits.

Frequently Asked Questions General

Absinthe is a traditional herbal spirit whose characteristic taste is primarily derived from wormwood, anise, and fennel. It originated in the border region between Switzerland and France and became widely known in the 19th century.

Absinthe is traditionally diluted with ice-cold water, which is slowly dripped into the glass – often over a sugar cube. This preparation allows the aromas to unfold and creates the typical "louche" effect, where the spirit becomes milky and cloudy.

The high alcohol content serves as a carrier for the subtle herbal aromas and preserves them. Absinthe is therefore not intended for pure consumption, but is traditionally drunk diluted with water.

Absinthe is a traditional herbal spirit, whose characteristic taste is mainly due to wormwood, anise, and fennel. It originated in the border region between Switzerland and France and gained widespread recognition in the 19th century.

For the classic preparation, an Absinthe glass, an Absinthe spoon for the sugar cube, and a carafe or fountain with ice-cold water are used. These tools allow for slow dilution and ensure a balanced taste experience.
