Cousin Jeune was an Absinthe brand during the times of the Belle Époque. Now this historical brand is for sale again. Every bottle is decorated with the original vintage promotional poster of Cousin Jeune. The Absinthe itself is a classic Absinthe Blanche, meaning that no coloring herbs are added to the distillate. The result is a crystal clear, very smooth and fine Absinthe. Cousin Jeune is distilled with local wormwood from Pontarlier. Therefore, you will experience a very powerful wormwood taste. Fennel and anise, the classic Absinthe herbs, give Cousin Jeune a smooth and slightly sweet finish. This premium Absinthe won the gold medal at a spirit contest in Paris.

Interesting info about Cousin Jeune Absinthe

After Absinthe prohibition, the Cousin Jeune Absinthe distillery offered as well a thujone free Absinthe, an "absinthe sans-thuj". But these products were not very successful. Why? Because the truth behind the claims of the manufacturers was more than dubious. Many journals of the time satirically mocked the product.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Product

Cousin Jeune represents a classic Blanche absinthe style, based on traditional recipes. Its character is authentic, balanced, and clearly structured. The absence of coloring herbs results in a particularly smooth taste.

The focus is on delicate anise notes, accompanied by wormwood and select herbs. The flavor profile is harmonious, slightly spicy, and pleasantly smooth and mild.

Absinthe develops its full aroma when slowly diluted with cold water. This gradual addition creates the typical louche effect. If desired, the absinthe can be prepared with a sugar cube. The sweetness intensifies the aromas.

With its balanced and approachable nature, Cousin Jeune is suitable for both absinthe beginners and connoisseurs who prefer a milder style of absinthe.

Frequently Asked Questions General

Absinthe is a traditional herbal spirit whose characteristic taste is primarily derived from wormwood, anise, and fennel. It originated in the border region between Switzerland and France and became widely known in the 19th century.

Absinthe is traditionally diluted with ice-cold water, which is slowly dripped into the glass – often over a sugar cube. This preparation allows the aromas to unfold and creates the typical "louche" effect, where the spirit becomes milky and cloudy.

The high alcohol content serves as a carrier for the subtle herbal aromas and preserves them. Absinthe is therefore not intended for pure consumption, but is traditionally drunk diluted with water.

Absinthe is a traditional herbal spirit, whose characteristic taste is mainly due to wormwood, anise, and fennel. It originated in the border region between Switzerland and France and gained widespread recognition in the 19th century.

For the classic preparation, an Absinthe glass, an Absinthe spoon for the sugar cube, and a carafe or fountain with ice-cold water are used. These tools allow for slow dilution and ensure a balanced taste experience.
