Absinthe Fleur d'Absinthe is a French Absinthe made by Devoille. It has a wormwood sprig in the bottle. This makes this Absinthe primarily special. In comparison to other French Absinthes, Fleur d'Absinthe’s recipe uses more fennel, as this Absinthe was created after the legal fenchone level was elevated in France in 2010. This makes this Absinthe secondarily special. Overall we can recommend this Absinthe, if you are looking for a fresh and novel Absinthe taste, appreciate a slight bitterness and like the idea of a sprig in the bottle! Drink it wait one or two sugar cubes and the bitterness is softened.

Absinthe distillery with a long history

Fleur d'Absinthe is distilled by the Devoille distillery. This distillery has a long Absinthe tradition: It was founded in 1859 in Fougerolles. Besides Pontarlier, Fougerolles was the second major Absinthe hub, where many companies had their distilleries. Nowadays, Devoille produces besides Absinthe many other fine spirits. But Absinthe is, besides their delicious eaux-de-vies their flagship product. They still produce according to historical Absinthe recipes and cultivate the wormwood plants by themselves. This guarantees premium quality, which you can taste in every Devoille Absinthe.

Fleur d'Absinthe is a wormwood-forward absinthe where the focus is deliberately on bitterness.

The wormwood sprig in the bottle significantly influences the absinthe and gives it a bitter character.

Compared to classic Verte absinthe, Fleur d'Absinthe is considerably more bitter. This is because the wormwood sprig in the bottle macerates in the absinthe, imparting more bitterness as it ages.

Fleur d'Absinthe is best enjoyed in the classic way with water and sugar. The sugar is necessary in this absinthe to balance the bitter flavors.

This absinthe is for those who enjoy bitter flavors. Adding 1-2 sugar cubes gives it a wonderfully bittersweet taste, a truly interesting alternative to the otherwise more balanced absinthes.

Frequently Asked Questions General

Absinthe is a traditional herbal spirit whose characteristic taste is primarily derived from wormwood, anise, and fennel. It originated in the border region between Switzerland and France and became widely known in the 19th century.

Absinthe is traditionally diluted with ice-cold water, which is slowly dripped into the glass – often over a sugar cube. This preparation allows the aromas to unfold and creates the typical "louche" effect, where the spirit becomes milky and cloudy.

The high alcohol content serves as a carrier for the subtle herbal aromas and preserves them. Absinthe is therefore not intended for pure consumption, but is traditionally drunk diluted with water.

Absinthe is a traditional herbal spirit, whose characteristic taste is mainly due to wormwood, anise, and fennel. It originated in the border region between Switzerland and France and gained widespread recognition in the 19th century.

For the classic preparation, an Absinthe glass, an Absinthe spoon for the sugar cube, and a carafe or fountain with ice-cold water are used. These tools allow for slow dilution and ensure a balanced taste experience.
