The Pontarlier absinthe glasses are reproductions of original absinthe glasses from the Belle Époque. These glasses were made famous by a work of art by the turn-of-the-century painter Charles Maire (see photo gallery). Pernod Fils used this painting to advertise its absinthe. Large prints of the original painting were produced and distributed in bistros. This is how the Pontarlier glasses achieved worldwide recognition. If you like the design, you should visit a flea market on your next trip to France. Well-preserved examples can still be found today due to Pernod's large production run.
