INFO: As the Paris 1889 spoon is silver-plated, it will tarnish over time. This is a natural process. You can simply clean the spoon with silver polish (the best way) or (grandma's secret) with toothpaste. This will give back the initial shining.

The inauguration of the Eiffel Tower

On Sunday, 31 March 1889, Gustave Eiffel showed some of the famous personalities of the day the tallest tower in the world. The tower has 1,710 steps which were climbed by feet, on top of the tower the French flag was unfurled to the sound of a 21-gun salute. Gustave Eiffel proudly announced: "The French flag is the only one with a 300-metre pole." Some days later on May 15th, the official inauguration of the Eiffel Tower took place, together with the opening day of the Exposition Universelle (EXPO). The Eiffel Tower remained the worlds' tallest building till 1930 when the Chrysler building was built in New York.

Traditional French ritual using the Paris 1889 Absinthe spoon

In the following video, you can see how you serve Absinthe the traditional French way. You need an Absinthe glass, an Absinthe spoon, sugar cubes and ice-cold water for this ritual. This is how it works: You place the Absinthe spoon on the rim of the glass, put a sugar cube on top and slowly add water. The Absinthe in the glass blends with the water and magically louches from green to an opalescent white color. Santé, your sugared Absinthe is prepared!

Frequently Asked Questions about the
Product

The name "Paris 1889" refers both to the French absinthe culture of the Belle Époque, when absinthe was an integral part of Parisian café life, and to the shape of the Eiffel Tower, bearing the year 1889. This absinthe spoon was made in that year to commemorate the tower's grand opening. The spoon is an authentic reproduction.

Silver-plated means that the spoon has a silver coating. This gives it a bright, elegant surface that stands out visually from dark or plain spoons. However, the spoon can tarnish and must be polished with silver polish from time to time.

The finely crafted design ensures that the water flows evenly through the sugar cube. At the same time, the spoon lends a special elegance to the preparation without compromising its function.

Unlike Gothic or antique spoons, the Paris spoon appears sophisticated and refined. It represents less mysticism or patina, and more a classic French café atmosphere.

This spoon is aimed at absinthe lovers with a sense of elegance and classic aesthetics who wish to present their absinthe preparation in a stylish and authentic manner. It is also a beautiful collector's item.

Frequently Asked Questions
general

For the traditional ritual, three basics are usually sufficient: an Absinthe glass, an Absinthe spoon, and ice-cold water (e.g., from a carafe). Sugar cubes are optional. Those who prepare Absinthe more frequently or serve multiple people often use a fountain or a brouilleur for particularly even dripping.

An Absinthe glass is shaped to better highlight the aroma and mixing ratio. Many classic models (e.g., Pontarlier glasses) support the typical dilution with water and ensure that the louche effect develops beautifully and controllably – something that often appears less "harmonious" in a simple tumbler.

The Absinthe spoon is placed over the glass to hold a sugar cube while water slowly drips over it. "The right one" primarily depends on the glass size and style: It is important that it rests steadily and offers enough surface area for the water to flow through evenly.

Carafe: simple, flexible, ideal for beginners Brouilleur: controlled drip directly onto the glass, very classic Fountain: perfect for quiet, even dripping and when several glasses are to be prepared one after another (or simultaneously) – often the "ritual upgrade."

For glasses: clean gently, especially with delicate shapes or decorations – ideally with mild dish soap and a soft cloth. Spoons (depending on material/finish) should be stored dry to maintain their surface and shine. For delicate or coated items, hand washing is usually the safest option.
