This premium absinthe set contains the very best. ALANDIA Verte is a gold-medal-winning, traditional green Absinthe distilled in Fougerolles at a family-run distillery dating back to 1859. The recipe focuses primarily on absinthe's iconic ingredient: great wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), also known as "La Grande Absinthe." The wormwood is grown locally in France on the distillery's own fields, guaranteeing exceptional quality. Furthermore, all subsequent processes adhere to 19th-century traditions: as in days gone by, the harvest is done by hand, and the wormwood branches are then dried for several months in a dark, but sun-exposed, wooden shed called a "séchoir."
The production process is also true to the original. Distillation takes place in a large copper still. The recipe is based on a generous portion of wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) and is enriched with other traditional herbs such as green anise, fennel, and the Artemisia species Genepi (alpine wormwood). After distillation, the initially crystal-clear distillate is macerated with selected coloring herbs. These give ALANDIA Verte its natural green color. Since direct sunlight would impair the natural green color of ALANDIA Verte, each bottle is wrapped in paper. After opening, the bottle should be stored in a dark place and ideally re-wrapped in the paper.
We recommend ALANDIA Verte to both beginners and connoisseurs. Novices will greatly appreciate the fresh, balanced taste of this absinthe. Experienced absinthe drinkers can focus their attention on the individual components: fresh notes of green anise and a touch of fennel combined with slightly grassy tones of genepi, all culminating in the floral and seductive taste of wormwood.
Also included in the Absinthe Set: Glasses, Spoons, Carafe, Sugar
The Premium Gold Medal Set contains four mouth-blown "Pontarlier" absinthe glasses. They feature a reservoir in the base for measuring the correct amount of absinthe. These are authentic reproductions of historical absinthe glasses. Because the glasses are handmade (as they were in the past), they have a seamless surface without the seams found in pressed glass. Furthermore, the glasses are polished, giving them a beautiful, historical appearance.
The "Feuilles" absinthe spoons are also authentic reproductions of historical originals. They are made of stainless steel to guarantee a long lifespan. Intertwined wormwood leaves (feuilles = French for leaves) decorate the spoon's surface.
The ALANDIA water carafe, with its thoughtful details, offers exceptional functionality. For example, it has a sufficiently wide neck to easily add ice cubes. Ice-cold water is essential for the absinthe ritual, as it creates a particularly dense louche. Louche is the clouding effect of the absinthe when water is added. This is an important functional feature, but not every water carafe offers it. Furthermore, the carafe has a small spout. This allows for a slow, controlled, and, above all, fine stream of water. This is important for dissolving the sugar cube in a controlled manner. With other water carafes, the water often tends to splash out, which is detrimental to the absinthe ritual.
A bag of absinthe sugar cubes completes this beautiful absinthe set. Our sugar cubes are less densely pressed and flatter than regular sugar cubes. This technique allows them to dissolve particularly well when moistened with water, perfecting the drinking ritual.
This is how Absinthe is traditionally drunk
ALANDIA Verte should be enjoyed according to the classic French absinthe ritual. You will need an absinthe glass, an absinthe spoon, sugar cubes, and ice-cold water. Here's how the ritual works: Pour a small amount of absinthe into the glass (approximately 20 ml). Then, place the absinthe spoon on the rim of the glass, add a sugar cube, and slowly pour water over it. A water carafe or—for a more sophisticated touch—an absinthe fountain can be used. The absinthe in the glass mixes with the sugary water, magically transforming its green color into an opalescent white.
We recommend a mixing ratio of 1 part absinthe to 2 parts water for ALANDIA Verte. Finally, stir the absinthe briefly with a spoon. The absinthe is now ready!
